Sealing Air Leaks And Adding Insulation

One of the first things your Brower Advisor will look at is air leaks which can suck energy and make your home drafty and uncomfortable. Leaks around windows, doors and electrical outlets can be obvious. Others such as leaks around dryer vents, chimneys and through recessed lighting are harder to spot and can be the biggest area of air loss. Hand in hand with air leaks is your insulation level. Most homes need better insulation for the extremes of winter and summer. Areas such as ceiling, floors and walls should be evaluated to create a more comfortable living environment.

Replacement Windows

Despite what you have heard, windows don’t usually save as much energy when compared to other areas we will address. However, new windows can make you home more comfortable, quieter and better protect your furniture and carpets from fading and help to reduce condensation. If you are interested in new windows your Brower advisor can help you. Brower uses only windows that meet or exceed energy star specifications and we insure that they are installed so you get the maximum benefit from them. Like all of the products that Brower installs, our windows are guaranteed.

Improving Heating And Cooling Systems

Depending on the age and condition of your furnace or air conditioner your Brower advisor may recommend that you replace it with a new high efficiency unit. We’ll determine and install a proper sized unit and then make sure that the air is evenly distributed throughout the house. Often times we are able to replace the current unit with a smaller sized unit because the efficiency is so high. We also test the water heater and furnace to ensure operating efficiency. With all of these systems balanced correctly, temperatures are more consistent, comfort is increased and overheating is reduced resulting in greater savings.

Upgrading Appliances And Lighting

Energy used for lighting and appliances can account for half of your homes utility bill. To lower this, your Brower Whole House advisor may recommend new high efficiency products such as refrigerators, dishwashers, light fixtures or compact fluorescent bulbs. An energy efficient water heating system may also be recommended. Once you have taken steps to maximize efficiency your advisor can help you evaluate the addition of renewable energy systems to further reduce your utility bills.

Sealing Ductwork

Ductwork leakage is one of the biggest energy wasters. Ductwork must be well-sealed, insulated and sized to ensure your home’s heating and cooling systems are working as efficiently as possible. Most homes have leaky ductwork and insufficient air flow which can result in an uncomfortable living environment—regardless of the thermostat setting. Your home comfort and energy advisor may recommend sealing your home’s ducts to optimize air flow. We may also insulate ductwork in attics and crawlspaces to provide maximum comfort.

Indoor Air Quality

Air can carry pollutants as it travels through your home. Without good ventilation, pollutants can become trapped indoors and create health problems for everyone in your family. As with everything Brower Mechanical does in your home, we strive to maintain and improve overall indoor air quality. We make sure your combustion chamber is working and venting safely. Sealing air leaks and ducts keeps pollution from entering your home and lowers dust levels. Your Brower advisor can recommend additional energy saving ventilation equipment and devices to further clean your air and offer and even higher level of protection.
